Review: Her Final Breath (The Tracy Crosswhite Series #2) by Robert Dugoni

Print Length:410 pages
Publisher: Thomas & Mercer (September 15, 2015)

From Goodreads.com: Homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite has returned to the police force after the sensational retrial of her sister’s killer. Still scarred from that ordeal, Tracy is pulled into an investigation that threatens to end her career, if not her life.

A serial killer known as the Cowboy is killing young women in cheap motels in North Seattle. Even after a stalker leaves a menacing message for Crosswhite, suggesting the killer or a copycat could be targeting her personally, she is charged with bringing the murderer to justice. With clues scarce and more victims dying, Tracy realizes the key to solving the murders may lie in a decade-old homicide investigation that others, including her captain, Johnny Nolasco, would prefer to keep buried. With the Cowboy on the hunt, can Tracy find the evidence to stop him, or will she become his next victim?

My Rating: 4 stars out of 5

I found this author simply by mistake. I am an avid reviewer with an account on Netgalley, so when this author was recommended to me, I took a  chance and requested both of the books in this series.

AND I LOVED THEM.

Much like the first novel in this series, the plot takes time to build and really start moving forward, but once it does you are taken on an intense ride full of twists, turns and more than a few unexpected surprises. This was one of those novels where I knew for certain who the killer was - only to have a curve-ball thrown at me that made for a much better ending than I could have imagined.

The characters are all well developed, and I believe this novel to be a pretty accurate representation of (how I feel) the police department operates. You have your leaks, your dead ends, your colleagues who want nothing more than to see you fail - and then you get that one big break that busts the case wide open, and this story had all of those things.

I would definitely recommend this novel and I look forward to reading more of Tracy's adventures!

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
