Review: The Rogue's Surrender (Nelson's Tea Series #3) by Katherine Bone

Print Length: 326 pages
Publisher: EsKape Press (July 12, 2016)

From Goodreads.com: He'd become a beast only she could tame.

Marked for death! Lady Mercedes Vasquez Claremont has been betrayed by a member of Nelson’s Tea. Now her life is in the hands of the man she couldn’t save, a beast forged by Spanish hatred.

Lord Garrick Seaton, aka Captain Blade, is the only one who has a chance of pulling off a lifesaving mission. To do so, he must go to Spain and face memories of captivity and torture. But the fiery Spanish lady he seeks to rescue proves to be the greater threat. Can he protect his heart, or will she demand his complete surrender?

My Rating: 5 stars out of 5

To borrow a phrase from this book - Hounds Blood!! Even though I have been well acquainted with this series, and I almost feel as though I know these characters personally, this story still manged to surpass my (already high) expectations!!

Once again, Ms.Bone has managed to weave together a tale that draws the reader in and keeps them glued to the pages eager to take this journey and see where it ends up. In fact - this story was so good that I was inside reading it the minute I got it without a care of the fact that there was a bonfire happening outside. Yes my friends and fellow readers - I was THAT hooked.

This story can technically be considered a stand alone as this book focuses mainly on Garrick and Mercy, however there is so much backstory from the other books (including loose ends tied up), that I feel it would be a shame to not start at the beginning (with Duke by Day, Rogue by Night). Ms.Bone is one of those rare authors that can take a story (even one with a basis in historical fact) and weave it so that you live it with the characters. I can easily pictures these characters alive during this time and doing exactly what they did in order to help their country. No two characters are alike in this world - and that makes it a refreshing change from some others of the same ilk.

I think one of my favorite things about this series is that these aren't your "average" romance stories. In fact, the action starts almost immediately and keeps you guessing what is going to come next. From traitors on board, to one of the prominent characters facing near certain death, to the two main characters finally admitting their attraction for one another, this story has something for everyone.

Overall, I would recommend not only this story, but all of the stories (and novellas) in the Nelson's Tea series to anyone who enjoys a complex and well developed story carried out in the most superb of ways.
