Review: Savage Ruler by Kristen Luciani

Print Length: 325 pages

From Goodreads.com:  My fiancé is the Anti-Prince Charming…

Mateo Villani is darkness wrapped in Armani. He's a six-foot tall, ruggedly-handsome savage, a notorious gangster who's bedded half of Manhattan...and now he's my fiancé.

My father betrayed me, signing my life away to the cocky bastard whose personality is colder than a block of ice. Mateo crushed my ambitions when he slid his ring onto my finger. He stole my life away and now he's determined to mold me into a dutiful mob wife.

But I have news for him.
I obey no one.

As the days pass, I am more and more determined to hate him, to resist the deviant fantasies that swirl through my mind when he’s near. But before long, I can't live without the bound wrists, his rough hands, and sinful body.

I find myself longing for him...and his punishment.

I despise my fiancé.
But it doesn’t stop me from craving him even more.

My Rating: 1 star out of 5

This is a novel that I am sure will appeal to a lot of people - especially people who enjoy more erotica with their mafia stories.

That person however is not me.

When I read the synopsis for this one, I expected much more than what I got. And maybe that was my downfall as the two leads meeting in a kink club (and what happened from there) just... bored me. I felt no connection to them, no strength in their characters (or in their ability to be head of a mafia family). And while I enjoyed the fact that consent played a huge role in their first meeting, I didn't buy into their chemistry or their connection. I would have liked to have seen their romance develop a bit slower and in a more believable way.

Another thing I would have liked to see was a more present feeling of suspense or danger from this so-called threat looming over them. I never felt that their marriage for "protection" was needed.

However, I was interested in some of the background characters so if they should get their own stories in the future I may give this author a second chance.
