Review: The Matchmaker's Replacement by Rachel Van Dyken

Print Length: 304 pages
Publisher: Skyscape (July 26, 2016)

From Goodreads.com:  Wingman rule number two: never reveal how much you want them.

Lex hates Gabi. Gabi hates Lex. But, hey, at least the hate is mutual, right? All Lex has to do is survive the next few weeks training Gabi in all the ways of Wingmen Inc. and then he can be done with her. But now that they have to work together, the sexual tension and fighting is off the charts. He isn’t sure if he wants to strangle her or throw her against the nearest sturdy table and have his way with her.

But Gabi has a secret, something she’s keeping from not just her best friend but her nemesis too. Lines are blurred as Lex becomes less the villain she’s always painted him to be…and starts turning into something more. Gabi has always hated the way she’s been just a little bit attracted to him—no computer-science major should have that nice of a body or look that good in glasses—but “Lex Luthor” is an evil womanizer. He’s dangerous. Gabi should stay far, far away.

Then again, she’s always wanted a little danger.

My Rating: 5 stars out of 5
Oh this story! I'll be the first to admit that (for the most part), I enjoy the stories that Ms.Van Dyken writes. She has this way of telling a story that is both funny and serious (without it ever being too much at once), and this story was no exception.

Lex and Gabbi have an interesting history. Both have had feelings for the other for a long time, but instead of acting on it (with good reason) - they choose instead to fight like cats and dogs. And their banter back and forth is what made this book! I LOVED their scenes together!

From the funny:
“I’m not worried. I’m a genius.”
“And yet you still managed to get herpes.”

To the swoon worthy:
"I've loved you for a long time.. I'll continue to love you even longer."

You will find yourself pulled into this world and enjoying the ride as these two people finally give into what has been in front of them the entire time. When you add into that Gabbi's heart of gold (the poor girl takes a second job that she hates in order to help out her parents) - you have all the makings for a heart-tugging, smile inducing best-seller!

I also enjoyed being able to catch up with Ian and Blake (who we met in The Matchmaker's Playbook). The epilogue was everything I could have hoped for a fitting end to the story thus far - while still leaving it open to continue with the series.

Overall - I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a well written (and witty) romance!
