The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Picture
Juliet is about to embark on her first year of college. A feat her cousin Amy says she won't be prepared for until she completes a list of five "dares". Juliet has no trouble completing the first four on her list, but the final task "go skinny dipping" is giving her trouble. Now with only two weeks to go before she heads off to college, Juliet decides that the private pool at her Grandparent's beach house will provide the perfect place to complete that final dare.

Everything is going well, she's shed her clothes and actually begins to feel liberated - until she's caught by her sexy neighbor Dylan - the one person Juliet has had a crush on forever. One things leads to another, and Juliet finds herself engaging in some very disappointing sex with Dylan. Embarrassed and Disappointed, she takes off, readying herself for college with Dylan (oh and did I mention she chose this particular college because he went there?).

Soon Juliet finds herself settling into college life - pledging Delta Mu, and juggling sorority events, homework and a dating life. That's right, her and Dylan have decided to make their one night stand something more official.

Unfortunately for Juliet, she quickly realizes that her Mr.Right is not who she thought he was.

My Rating: 4 Stars out of 5

When I was asked if I would be willing to read an advanced copy of The Hazards of Skinny Dipping, I was stoked! Alyssa Rose Ivy is one of my favorite "New Adult" writers, she has a way of writing that leaves you cursing, laughing and always wanting more.

This book definitely lived up to my expectations. It has a cute premise, and Ms.Ivy knows just how to tell a tale so that the reader will be left captivated. As always with her books, I found it hard to do little else but sit and read until it was finished.

I loved Juliet - her spunky personality, the way she handled herself both in laser tag and paint ball, the girl had a lot of lovable qualities. Dylan? Not so much. He came across as one of those very controlling jerks of a man who need a swift kick in the arse instead of a girlfriend. Reed was another strong character, although thankfully in a different way that Dylan. He was everything you'd want your boyfriend to be, sexy, funny, etc. Together as a group, they keep the story moving and from becoming "stale".

There were several times during the book that I felt like screaming at Juliet however, the crap that she put up with from Dylan was more than she deserved, and way more than she should have put up with. Thankfully, she soon realizes what a loser she is and begins standing up to him, something that if his reaction was anything to go on, had not been done to him before.

Oh my goodness, some of the lines in this book kept cracking me up! For example, at one point the following dialog happens (I won't tell you between who)  "I'm hung, and you're stacked." He pulled off my panties and tossed them. "If college doesn't work out for us, we can make movies." Admit it.. you just at least cracked a smile at that yourself!

In the end, whether you are already a fan of Ms.Ivy's works or not, as long as you enjoy a good, often funny romance novel, you will definitely enjoy The Hazards of Skinny Dipping.

DISCLAIMER: I received an advanced copy of The Hazards of Skinny Dipping in exchange for my honest review. This has not reflected on my review in any way.
