Review: Secret Surrender (Forever, #2) by Priscilla West

Print Length:224 pages
Publisher: Amazon Unlimited (September 24, 2013)

From Goodreads.com: “What gives you a thrill Kristen?”

I knew that giving in to Vincent Sorenson was a risk, but it was one I was willing to take. I had hidden my heart for so long and for the first time in a long time, Vincent was close to breaking down the walls.

When a trip to Vincent’s exclusive private island reveals the real Vincent underneath the layers of suave nonchalance, I thought we were close to the start of something special.

Just when things were looking up for us, I would discover the one secret that Vincent never intended for me to find.

My Rating: 2 stars out of 5

As I stated when I reviewed the first book in this series, my BIGGEST complaint is that I don't really consider them to be a series at all. To begin with, they aren't that long  (this one was only 8 chapters - a full chapter SHORTER than the first one), then there is the fact that each book is a continuation of that last one (literally picking up right where the previous one left off). When the author is asking $2.99 a book, I feel that they should be longer and at least end on some sort of cliff-hanger.

That being said, I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I did the first one. I felt that the synopsis provided was misleading in that his secret wasn't even all that bad. It was just Kristen's jealousy and irrational behavior that blew it entirely way out of proportion. I felt that this book was lacking a lot of what I liked about the first one, yes there was more sex in this one, but the overall plot didn't seem to be as fleshed out as the first one. There were points that were either really sweet, or in some cases beginning to go somewhere, but then either Kristen would jump to the worst possible conclusion and begin acting like a child, or the plot-line would seemingly come from nowhere and lead to nowhere. Rather disappointing actually.

Forbidden Surrender was also a fast read (I was able to finish it in a couple of hours), and with the author's writing style, it didn't have that rushed feeling that some other novels have. I am looking forward to the third novel (which I actually just started reading today).

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
